Herman Cook, retired Methodist minister, met with a group of Holiday Island residents who convinced him to hold a worship service on Easter Sunday, April 11, 1993. 43 people met in the Holiday Island Clubhouse Ballroom for worship. After the first service they agreed to continue to meet and in a short time organized the Holiday Island Community Church, a non-denominational church.
The church was incorporated in March 23, 1994 with 106 charter members. Dr. Cook served as pastor and his beloved wife Ellen was the music director. At that time attendance was around 80 and about 30 of that number were in the choir. Ellen was an excellent recruiter.
As attendance and membership continued to increase, talk began of a church building. Land was purchased in 1995 and ground was broken on October 11, 1998. Under the direction of Howard Wallace the sanctuary was erected and on June 27, 1999 the congregation dedicated the building to the glory of God. On July 29, 2001 the church celebrated the burning of the mortgage. The early pay off of the mortgage was helped by an all-volunteer staff at the time, including the pastor, choir director, secretary, treasurer, and grounds keepers.
The congregation voted to accept a bid for construction of a Fellowship Hall Building and Memorial Garden on August 8, 2004. The ground breaking was held on Sunday, October 3, 2004. The Fellowship Hall building was named the Cook Center with two stories and 6782 square feet of space to accommodate education and fellowship. The upstairs fellowship area was named Haller Hall after Ken and Edie Haller who were very generous with their support of our church. This building’s mortgage has also been paid off.
The Memorial Garden is a beautiful and peaceful place. Many of our past church members ashes are placed there, including Herman & Ellen Cook.

Our church is dedicated to the glory of God and to the service of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Our purpose is to provide Christian, nondenominational worship services for persons who desire to attend church here at Holiday Island. Our congregation includes persons from a wide variety of traditional and denominational backgrounds. We serve open communion on the fourth Sunday of each month.
Our current pastor is Dr. Jeff Timm, a retired Air Force Chaplain who has much experience with ministering to different denominations.
